I am looking for a good stand alone antimaleware program that is free. So far I am considering spyware doctor started edition v5.5 or windows defender. Between these two, which one is the better.
I know that no single program is 100% but I have other security programs that I use so I am looking for a free program to run as a back up. I would also like the one that has the highest efficiency, largest definitions, and finds the most types of malware.
I have looked into superantispyware but while the fanboys love it, the test reviews say it is only mediocre so I am not considering it.
Thanks

What do you mean by standalone, i know that word is used for programs that don’t require setup or are a separated component of a software suite. A great standalone (no-setup) free general malware scanner is DrWeb’s CureIt. A good spyware/adware/trojan free removal tool is A-Squared, better at detections than Spywaredoctor or WinDefender.
For a resident free antivirus, Antivir is currently the best.
I’ve tried Superantispyware and it’s good at detection but sluggish and the interface is terrible, but is far better than the popular Ad-Aware, that one just detects cookies and simple hijacks.
